Philip Dunn is proud to be the last active founder member of Brighton Artists’ Open Houses and is therefore equally proud to support Art in Ditchling by being a sponsor again this year. However, Philip is best known for his vibrant and evocative paintings of Brighton seafront, particularly his dazzling depictions of colourfully striped deckchairs, which have become a symbol of the city. This exhibition is a mini-retrospective, showing paintings and prints covering a little over 60 years. After Window Gallery’s 25 years in Brighton’s famous Lanes and 15 years at Turner Dumbrell Workshops, Philip will be moving his studio back home at the end of May and maybe taking things a little easier. After all, he will be celebrating his 80th birthday on the day after this exhibition ends. He is hoping that retiring from his bespoke picture framing service may give him more time to paint, perhaps to finish his memoir and to enjoy his magnificent garden, with his wife, Veryan and, of course, with Panache, their dashing wire-haired dachshund.
