Located near the Sussex village of Ditchling, an area rich in artistic heritage, Artelium collaborates with local and national artists, showcasing contemporary art & craft amidst the beautiful landscape of the South Downs.

Artelium presents Wood, Earth, a solo exhibition from artist and sculptor Walter Bailey. Working with oak and redwood, Walter creates intricate patterns and bold structures using hand tools, chainsaws and fire. He reuses refuse wood, taken from the landscape and returned in a reimagined form. Taking place both in the tasting room and out in the vineyard, this exhibition includes large scale sculpture, interior pieces, a new collection of woodblock prints and a permanent sculpture created especially for Artelium. Taking wood from pruned and storm-felled branches, Walter has created a bespoke piece in direct response to the landscape. This vast circular structure provides an organic framing device for the surrounding vines and views of the South Downs. Alongside collaborating with Walter on this exhibition, Artelium has been working with him on the label design for Artefact #6, a very dark ‘Saignée’ Rosé, named after the French ‘to bleed.’ Walter has responded to this rich colour in his label design, adding touches of rust and red ochre. These pieces have naturally developed from the designs of his final sculpture, rendered as woodblock prints – a new form for Walter. Several limited-edition prints will be included in the exhibition, alongside the three final label designs. Artelium will be launching Artefact #6 in tandem with the exhibition.
